Introduction
M17 is developing a new digital radio protocol for data and voice, made by and
for amateur radio operators.
M17 protocol's voice mode uses the free and open Codec 2 voice encoder. This means
there are no patents, no royalties, and no licensing or legal barriers to
scratch-building your own radio or modifying one you already own.

M17 Bridge by Digital Voice New Zealand
The New Zealand Digital Voice Group are developing M17 Bridge.
Jim Tittsler - 27 November 2022:
Over the past year, DVNZ has been using Doug AD8DP‘s extension of Andy CA6JAU‘s
clever M172DMR software to link some of the XLX299 modules with M17-NZD modules.
This transcoding bridge allows users of the Open Source M17 protocol to communicate
with people using the D-STAR, YSF, and DMR protocols already supported by the XLX reflectors.

TYT MD-380 Hardware Modification for OpenRTX and M17 Protocol
Modification of the MD380: In order to transmit M17 audio, the radio needs to be
modified so the MCU has direct access to the mic without the audio being routed
over the HR_C5000.
