XLX Reflector with a dmrgateway

Unfortunately, you do need an AMBE board to transcode between DMR and D-Star, they are simply too dissimilar to do it in software, you need two vocoders one to decode one mode and one to encode to the other mode.. so either two dv3000 or a 3003 which has three channels or a 3006 which has sic channels of transcoding. Some of the XLX reflectors use the extra channels in the hardware to make more than one talkgroup / module available to support multiple users.

Other options like Ysf to Dmr are transcoded in software it's relatively easy to create a YSF reflector with the free software made available by Jonathan Naylor, G4KLX. Then have it 'bridge' to a DMR TG. NXDN to DMR is also something that can be accomplished in software. It's also possible to have most of the modes 'bridging' off a DMR TG in software then using the AMBE/XLX transcoding to bring in support to add DStar.

XLX Multiprotocol Gateway Reflector Server using AMBE CODEC's

Luc Engelmann LX1IQ Github page on the XLX Multiprotocol Gateway Reflector Server.

The XLX Multiprotocol Gateway Reflector Server is part of the software system for the D-Star Network.

The packages which are described in this document are designed to install server software which is used for the D-Star network infrastructure. It requires a 24/7 internet connection which can support 20 voice streams or more to connect repeaters and hotspot dongles!!

The server requires a static IP-address ! The public IP address should have a DNS record which must be published in the common host files.

2015 Interview with Luc Engel man, LX1IQ

The "XLX Multiprotocol Reflector Gateway for D-Star"

My translation of https://www.rlx.lu/files/d-star/CQDL_XLX.pdf with the help of google translate.

DIGITAL interview XLX Multiprotocol Reflector Gateway for D-Star. The variety of modern digital voice modes (DV) for the amateur radio service has increased in recent years. Behind them are data networks, that usually only allow communication in the respective standard. Luc Engel man, LX1IQ, works with his team on a system all radio amateurs, regardless of the DV standard, that can communicate with each other.

Q. How long has the development of the XLX system taken so far?
The first considered the project in the October 2015, so the XLX Multi-Protocol Gateway Reflector is still very young. The first lines of code originated already in the beginning of November. On the 7th of the month, the first beta Version went online, but then without DCS protocol support.

Q. How many developers were at the Development involved? We are a group of ambitious radio amateurs, the Spa.E at the have digital communication. Out These people are the "Digital Voice Communications Working Croup " of the RL (Radio Amateurs du Luxembourg) together (www.rlx.lu). Everyone has in his own way and in the context of his Opportunities contributed to the project. Purely programming technology are two Involved people.

Q. What was the original goal and what was the motivation to develop your own system?
After Luxembourg now a quasi was complete D-Star cover was the logical consequence, ours Relays among each other and also worldwide to network. However, none of the existing systems cover our needs right now. These current systems put radio amateurs in different groups, like D-Star, DMR +, DMR-MARC, C4FM, just to name a few. We but believe that in the digital communication different modes should work together. Very quickly we realized that the developers of existing systems had no interest in ours ideas, and we needed to develop our own system.

Q. Which protocols dominates XLX current?
The XLX currently dominates all gangli D-Star protocols such as DCS, DExtra and DPlus. Which operating modes (D-Star, DMR, APCO ...) are currently supported, which are in planning?
When talking about the different ones Operating modes, you have to first Understand the philosophy behind the XLX is. It would be easy now DMR relay to the XLX too couple. The internet protocol as well mastered the connection mechanism we already rule. The idea behind The XLX is infected, but is quite a other. All digital modes should run together on the XLX become. Only then can the user be free decide whether to use the DMR, D-Star or C4FM standard use and still, regardless of the operating mode with the other radio amateurs QSOs drive. At the moment does this work wonderfully between DCS, DExtra and DPlus. Of the the next step will be the implementation of tion of DMR. Whether we will be revealed. Also C4FM is on our roadmap.

Q. Is a cross-linking / bridging between the different modes planned?
We use the analog audio signal as a "common interface". Digitized voice, should go to the "End-users" still digitized. If there is no bridge, how to get the it signal from one sytem to other systems. However, the audio quality degrades through multiple conversion. All systems will be become integrated via direct transcoding. At the moment you can communicate via the DCS, REF or XRF protocol, later, this should also be available with DMR, C4FM or other protocols. Also, the XLX networking of servers will result in a peer-to-peer connection via the XLX protocol.

Q. How "open" is the system and are there defined interfaces for developers?
The XLX consists of two parts, the XLX Core Server and Dashboard. At the moment there are three interfaces, one JSON, an XML and an Interlink. All of the XLX has been under GPL since the beginning of January 2016 License so is open source freely available.

Q. Which programming language(s) will be the used?
The core server is completely in C ++. The Dashboard is written in PHP.

Q. What are the minimum requirements needed for a server?
The XLX code is very economical in resources. Although it runs on a Raspberry Pi we still recommend a server infrastructure. How much power is finally needed, in the end, depending on how many Modules and Protocols are used simultaneously.

Q. What is the preferred method for providing support?
The support is only available from the Yahoo group xlxd-star. It can be found at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/xlxd-star/info.
